Summer Camp for Central South Carolina Council held at Rocky
Bottom. This is considered part of a local summer camp collection, but
actually pre-dates Camp Barstow which was not opened until 1930. This
is the earliest known summer camp patch for Central S.C. Council. |

This is the first Camp Barstow patch. |

Called "Camp Barstow," this summer camp season was actually
held at Camp Burnt Gin in Wedgefield, SC. The original Camp Barstow on
Ft. Jackson had been sold to the government for expansion of the military
base. The new site in Gaston would not open until 1942. |
 |
1942 - 43 |
This was the first Camp Barstow patch for the Gaston
location of Camp Barstow. The patch was created with "194" printed
across the top and a "2" or "3" was typed on the patch to indicate 1942 or
1943. This is the only difference between the issues. |

Several years during 60s |
This is the first known Camp Barstow patch designating Camp
Staff. Exact years used are unknown. It was used several years
in the 60's, and perhaps earlier and/or later. |
 |
1961, 68, 69 |
There is conflicting information about this issue and the
"cut-edge F-dock." Accounts from former campers and staffers indicate
both of these were used in 1961, although this seems unlikely.
Moreover, it seems off that this design would be used in 61 and then again
in 68-69, yet there are no distinguishable variations as there are
with the "rolled edge F-docks" which were used off and on for several years. |
